Recently, we’ve been getting a lot of requests for upgrades to the Suzuki Jimny 1.6 – and for good reason. This little truck is already a hugely capable machine, but we believe it can be so much more. We've been developing a comprehensive upgrade package, and we’re thrilled to share the details. Why the Jimny 1.6? Let’s be real, the Jimny 1.6 is a bit of a cult favorite. It’s compact, lightweight, and seriously fun to drive. It’s not the fastest thing on the road, but its small size and solid axles give it incredible off-road agility. Plus, it's got a look that just screams adventure. People are using these for everything – overlanding, rock crawling, even just daily driving with a bit more style. But, out of the box, it has some limitations. The factory suspension is a little soft, the tires aren't ideal for serious terrain, and it could definitely use some protection. That’s where Idaho Earthworks comes in. Our Jimny 1.6 Upgrade Package – What We're Doing We’ve broken down our upgrades into a few key areas. We offer everything individually, or as a complete package for a seamless transformation. 1. Suspension – Lifting the Game The factory suspension is okay for mild trails, but if you want to tackle rocks, mud, or anything truly challenging, you need an upgrade. We’re using a custom-tuned lift kit that provides approximately 3-4 inches of lift. This isn't just about increasing ground clearance, though. We've worked closely with our suspension partners to develop a system that maintains ride quality on the road, while drastically improving off-road performance. Coil Springs & Shocks: We’re utilizing heavy-duty coil springs and performance shocks designed to handle the extra weight of larger tires and gear. These aren't your average aftermarket parts; we've tested different spring rates and damping characteristics to find the perfect balance for the Jimny. Extended Brake Lines: Lifting the Jimny requires extended brake lines to ensure proper braking performance. We use stainless steel braided lines for durability and reliability. Sway Bar Disconnects (Optional): For serious rock crawling, the ability to disconnect the sway bar significantly increases articulation, allowing the Jimny to keep all four tires on the ground even in the most challenging terrain. 2. Tires & Wheels – Grip Matters The stock tires are…well, they're okay for pavement. But for off-road adventures, they just don’t cut it. We’re fitting the Jimny with aggressive all-terrain or mud-terrain tires, depending on the customer’s needs. We typically recommend 31x10.50R15 tires. These provide significantly more grip and a more comfortable ride on rough surfaces. Wheel Options: We offer a range of aftermarket wheels that are both strong and lightweight. We typically suggest wheels with a negative offset to improve the Jimny’s stance and provide extra clearance. Proper Backspacing & Offset: We pay close attention to backspacing and offset to ensure the tires fit properly and don’t rub on the body or suspension components. This is something a lot of shops get wrong! 3. Armor & Protection – Keeping it Safe Rocks, trees, and other obstacles can do serious damage to the Jimny’s undercarriage. That’s why we’re offering a comprehensive armor package. Skid Plates: We fabricate heavy-duty skid plates to protect the engine, transmission, transfer case, and fuel tank. These are made from thick steel and are designed to withstand serious abuse. Rock Sliders: Rock sliders protect the rocker panels from damage when navigating tight trails. They also provide a convenient step for accessing the roof rack. Rear Quarter Panel Protection: Protecting the rear quarter panels is often overlooked, but these are vulnerable to damage from rocks and trees. We fabricate custom plates to provide extra protection. 4. Winch & Recovery Gear – Getting Unstuck Even the most capable off-road vehicle can get stuck sometimes. That's why we recommend adding a winch and recovery gear. Winch Mount: We fabricate a custom winch mount that is strong and secure. Synthetic Rope Winch: We prefer synthetic rope winches because they are lighter and safer than steel cable winches. Recovery Straps, Shackles, and Gloves: We provide a complete recovery kit to help you get unstuck and safely recover other vehicles. 5. Lighting – See and Be Seen Improved lighting is crucial for both safety and visibility on the trail. LED Headlights: We offer upgraded LED headlights that provide significantly more light output than the stock headlights. Auxiliary LED Lights: We can install auxiliary LED lights on the front bumper or roof rack to provide additional illumination. Why Choose Idaho Earthworks? We’re not just slapping parts on a Jimny. We live this stuff. We personally test all of our modifications on challenging trails to ensure they perform as expected.
